California's 50 strongest UC pipelines sit in ten of its 58 counties

California's top high schools by UC Reach Score, Fall 2025 — Reach by Test Prep Gurus.

We ranked every California high school with 100 or more seniors by how many students it sends to the six most selective UC campuses, per senior, for Fall 2025.

What surprised me was not the top of the list. It was the map.

All 50 schools come from ten of California's 58 counties. Los Angeles has 13. Orange has 11. Santa Clara has 10. San Diego has five, Alameda four. San Francisco and San Mateo have two each. Monterey, Fresno and Sacramento have one apiece.

Forty-eight counties have nobody on the board.

The second surprise runs the other way, and it is the one worth telling a parent. Thirty-four of the 50 are public or charter schools. Two out of three. The third-ranked school in the entire state is a public school in Carson.

If you assumed this list would be a tuition-sorted ranking of private academies, it is not. The public system produces most of it.

One honest caveat on the metric, because it changes how you read the numbers. Admits are counted at each campus, so a student admitted to three of them shows up three times. That is deliberate — it measures how much selective-UC opportunity a class generated — and it is why seven schools clear 100 admits per 100 seniors.

It also means this is a share, not a count. Sage Hill leads the board on a graduating class of 148, while Berkeley High, which has the most raw admits of any school on the list at 539, sits further down. Both numbers are real. A family should read whichever one answers the question they are actually asking.
