1. About this site
Reach (operating at highschoolreach.com) is a research tool published by Test Prep Gurus, LLC ("we", "us"). The site analyzes California high school enrollment trends, UC admissions outcomes, and related public-source data. It is not affiliated with the University of California, the California Department of Education, or any other government body.
2. Data we display about schools
All school-level data on this site comes from public sources:
- UC admissions data — University of California Office of the President (UCOP) Information Center, public release files.
- Enrollment, stability, and demographics — California Department of Education (CDE) DataQuest + Census Day downloads.
- Civil rights data (counselor ratios, AP rigor) — U.S. Department of Education Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC).
- Private-school financials — IRS Form 990 filings (public record).
- Economic connectedness — Opportunity Insights Social Capital Atlas.
- College data — IPEDS, Opportunity Insights Mobility Report Cards, NSF AI Institute lists, OpenAlex.
The school and college data we display is always at the aggregate level published by the sources above — we don't derive or show individual students' records from these datasets. (Information you choose to submit to us through our forms — including details about your own student — is described separately in Section 3.)
3. Information you give us
The only personal data we collect from visitors is what you voluntarily submit through our forms:
- Contact details — your name and email, when you unlock a school's gated snapshot, request an Enrollment Trend Audit, build a College Plan, follow a school, or join a waitlist. We use these to send you the results you asked for and, where you've opted in, occasional college-planning and test-prep guidance from Test Prep Gurus.
- Your student's profile (the College Plan audit) — to generate a personalized plan, you may provide details about your student: current grade, state of residence, unweighted GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores, intended major, an optional high-school name, and your family's annual income range. The income range is used only to estimate your net price by income bracket. We do not sell or share this information.
- School + role context (school/district leaders) — when a school or district leader submits a Reach Report or audit inquiry, you provide your school name and your role (head of school, board member, etc.) so we can tailor the response.
We store these submissions in our internal database and sync your contact record to Keap, our customer-relationship management platform. Both systems are access-controlled to authorized staff only. We do not sell your information. Our forms are intended to be completed by a parent or guardian on behalf of their student and are not directed to children under 13.
4. Cookies and analytics
We use a minimal set of first-party cookies to remember whether you've unlocked the snapshot (a session token only, no personal info). We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate site usage — pageviews, traffic sources, basic device + geography breakdowns. GA4 sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and sends usage data to Google; IP addresses are truncated by GA4, and we do not enable Google Signals or advertising features. We run GA4 through Google Consent Mode v2: analytics cookies are off by default in the EEA/UK until you accept, and a consent banner lets anyone Accept or Decline. You can change your choice anytime via "Cookie preferences" in the footer, or install the official Google Analytics Opt-out browser add-on.
We also log first-party site events (page views, lead-form submissions) in our own database for funnel analysis. These records contain timestamps, URL paths, and — when you submit a form — the email you provided. They do not contain advertising identifiers or cross-site tracking.
5. Third parties
Our infrastructure providers may incidentally process visitor request data while delivering the service:
- Render — hosts the application and database, and may log request metadata (including IP addresses) for security and reliability. Subject to Render's privacy practices.
- Keap — receives the contact records you voluntarily submit, for customer-relationship management.
- Stripe — if you purchase a subscription, our payment processor Stripe collects and processes your payment details (such as your card information and billing details) to charge you and manage recurring billing. We do not store your full card number; Stripe does, under its own security and privacy practices. Stripe shares with us limited information about your subscription (for example, plan, status, the last four digits of your card, and renewal dates). Subject to Stripe's privacy practices.
- Google Analytics — receives aggregate usage data (IP truncated; no advertising features enabled), subject to your consent choice.
6. Affiliate links & advertising
Some pages on this site contain affiliate links and, from time to time, sponsored content. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission from the retailer or service — at no additional cost to you. We use these commissions to help fund the research and free tools on this site.
Two commitments govern how we use them:
- We label clearly. Affiliate and sponsored links carry a clear disclosure near the link, and outbound paid links are tagged
rel="sponsored"for search engines. - Money never moves the rankings. Affiliate and sponsorship relationships do not affect our rankings, ratings, admit-odds models, or editorial analysis. We feature products and services because we believe they are useful to families — not because of a commission.
Clicking an affiliate or outbound link takes you to a third party whose own privacy practices and cookies apply once you leave our site. We are not responsible for the content or data practices of sites we link to.
7. Children's privacy
Reach is a planning tool for parents and guardians. Our forms, accounts, and subscriptions are designed to be completed and managed by an adult on behalf of their student, and the Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
Some of the information a parent or guardian chooses to give us is about a student — for example, current grade, state of residence, GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores, intended major, and an optional high-school name (see Section 3). A parent or guardian provides this information about their own child; we treat it as the parent's submission and use it only to generate the plan, results, alerts, or features the family asked for. We do not use a student's information to serve behavioral advertising, and we do not sell it.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information without a parent or guardian's involvement, please email hello@prepgurus.com and we will delete it. A parent or guardian may review, correct, or request deletion of information about their student, or withdraw further use of it, using the same email channel described in Section 8.
8. Your rights
If you want to know what we have on you, correct it, or delete it: email hello@prepgurus.com. We'll respond within 30 days. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA; those rights are honored on the same email channel.
9. School-data accuracy
We work hard to clean and verify the data we display, but errors are possible. School-level data on this site is for informational purposes only and should not be used as the sole basis for enrollment, admissions, or financial decisions. If you spot a specific error, email us and we'll investigate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
