Cornell draws the most New York graduates on these lists, and two Long Island public schools lead the boards

Cornell draws the most New York graduates on these lists, and two Long Island public schools lead the boards — from the high schools' own published lists
The angle
    • Across the 41 New York lists that print numbers, Cornell University draws the most graduates: 503. New York University is next at 413.
    • Two Long Island public high schools sit on top of those two boards. Syosset leads for Cornell with 25 in one class. Jericho leads for NYU with 34 in one class.
    • New York's own public universities take a small slice of these lists. SUNY and CUNY together are 8.1% of the counted New York enrollments. In California, UC is 15.8%.

New York has 143 high schools with a published college list on Reach. A matriculation list is where a school says which colleges its graduates enrolled in. 41 of the New York lists print a number next to each college name. Those 41 lists are the only ones used here.

    Cornell first, NYU second

Add up the printed counts across those 41 lists and Cornell is the largest destination in the state. These totals are our own sums of the numbers the schools printed.

The lists do not all cover the same stretch of time. Some print one class year. Others print five or six. So read the column as a running total, not a yearly rate.

Two Long Island districts lead both boards

Our feeder boards rank each school per class year, using the counts in its own document. Syosset Senior High School printed 25 students at Cornell for the Class of 2025. That is first of 230 schools on the Cornell board. Jericho Senior High School printed 34 at NYU for its Class of 2026. That is first of 251 schools on the NYU board.

The two districts also trade places. Jericho is second of 230 on the Cornell board, with 24. Syosset is third on the NYU board, with 21. Syosset's list names 149 colleges in all; Jericho's names 101.

    The home-state share is small

SUNY and CUNY together account for 8.1% of the counts summed across these 41 lists. The same measure is 15.8% for UC across California's 59 counted lists, and 15.2% for UT Austin plus Texas A&M across Texas's 18. Most of New York's 41 counted lists come from private schools, and that shapes the number as much as geography does. One list can move it.

    What this data is

Every figure here comes from a school's own published list, copied as printed, with class years exactly as the school states them. Boards rank each list for every graduating class it covers. Lists that print names without counts carry no numbers and enter none of these totals.
