The Inland Empire's strongest UC pipeline runs through a public school in Victorville
We ranked every high school in Riverside and San Bernardino County by how many students it sends to the six most selective UC campuses, per senior. One hundred and seventeen schools have a graduating class of 100 or more. These are the top 50.
The name at the top surprised me.
Cobalt Institute of Math and Science is a public school in Victorville. It sends more students to Berkeley, UCLA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Irvine and Davis per senior than any other high school in either county. Xavier College Prep in Palm Desert is second. Ayala High in Chino Hills is third, and it manages that with 669 seniors — which is the much harder version of the same feat.
Doing it with a small class is impressive. Doing it across 669 kids is a system.
Eleanor Roosevelt High in Eastvale sends the most students outright: 377 admits from 1,083 seniors. It ranks eighth here, because this measure is a share rather than a count.
Both numbers sit on every slide of the board, on purpose. A parent choosing between two schools wants the share. A district asking how many of its graduates got a selective-UC offer wants the count. Neither one is the honest number on its own.
One note on the metric. Admits are counted at each campus, so a student admitted to three UCs counts three times. That is deliberate — it measures the selective-UC opportunity a class generated — and it is why a strong school can score above 100.
If your kid's school is not on this list, that is not a verdict on it. One hundred and seventeen schools cleared the size threshold and fifty made the board. The full rankings, including every school we hold, are free at highschoolreach.com/rankings.
