Who it is for

  • Real-estate and relocation sites. Descriptive outcomes beside a listing: where a high school's seniors were admitted and enrolled, from the University's own counts by school and from the college lists schools publish. It is a list of schools, not a rating of a home or a neighborhood, and the terms say so.
  • Local news. County cuts of the data for a story, with a shared byline and the data year on every figure.
  • Counseling and college-side teams. Feeder standing by college, with the counts as the schools published them and the document each count came from.
  • Researchers. UC admissions by school and year, senior class sizes, standings and the published college lists in one set of files, with a data dictionary.

What you get

Four CSV files with a header row; blank means not available. Each sample below is the first 25 rows of the full file, so every sample row is a real row of the dataset.

  1. schools.csv, one row is one California high school that appears in the outcomes or standings file, with its city, county, district, type and the codes that join it to other datasets. Sample (25 rows)
  2. ca_uc_outcomes_by_school_year.csv, one row is one school in one UC admission cycle: senior class size, applicants, admits and enrollees summed over the six campuses, admits by campus, and the UC Reach Score. Sample (25 rows)
  3. ca_county_state_ranks.csv, one row is one school on one measure in its latest year, with its rank, the number ranked and its percentile in the county and statewide. Sample (25 rows)
  4. matriculation_lists.csv, one row is one college on one school's own published college list, with the count where the school printed one and the school document it came from. Sample (25 rows)

The four measures in the standings file are SBAC English language arts, SBAC math, chronic absenteeism and the UC Reach Score, each ranked within the county and statewide. The UC Reach Score is top-6 UC admits per 100 seniors, counted at each campus, so a student admitted to three campuses counts three times and a strong school scores above 100.

Refresh. UC data is refreshed when the University publishes a new year. College lists are refreshed as schools publish them. Senior class sizes, SBAC and absenteeism follow the California Department of Education's annual releases. Standings are recomputed when their inputs change.

Data dictionary. Every column of every file, with what one row is, is in the README that ships with the samples and the full files.

Terms in plain words

  1. A non-exclusive license for 12 months. You get the files; we keep licensing them to others.
  2. The attribution stays. "Source: High School Reach (highschoolreach.com)", with a link to highschoolreach.com, wherever a figure is shown.
  3. Internal and display use. Analyze the files inside your organization and show figures from them on your own pages and products.
  4. No redistribution of the files. The files themselves, in whole or in part, do not pass to anyone else.
  5. No use to train models. The data does not go into training a machine-learning or language model.
  6. Not a rating of a home or a neighborhood. The figures describe schools; do not present them as a rating of any home, address or neighborhood.
  7. We may correct data and ask for a refresh. We may correct, add or withdraw figures and send a revised file. When we do, replace the old one.
  8. Nothing in a license changes a rank, a list or a badge. Licensing never touches the editorial side; our editorial standards say how.

The signed agreement carries these terms in full. High School Reach sells nothing to families.
