This table, in plain English

What it measures: for each Ventura County high school, how many admissions its graduating class earned to the six most selective UC campuses (Berkeley, UCLA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Irvine, Davis), per 100 seniors. Higher score = the class graduated with more UC options on the table. It comes straight from the University of California's own school-by-school admissions counts.

How to read one row: Oak Park High School's 56 means its seniors earned 56 selective-UC admissions for every 100 students in the class. For scale, the median California high school scores about 18; the median Ventura County school scores 20.

The story in one sentence: Ventura County's table is a Conejo Valley story — the five schools clustered at its eastern edge, nearest Los Angeles, take most of the top of the table, while the coastal cities of Oxnard and Ventura sit well below them.

One honest caution: the Reach Score is not an admit rate. A student admitted to three UC campuses counts three times — it measures the breadth of options a class earned, which is why an exceptional school can score above 100. The full definition is below the table.

1. The Conejo Valley owns the top of the table. Oak Park (56), Westlake (50), Oaks Christian (41), Newbury Park (27) and Thousand Oaks (19) all sit on the county's eastern edge. Two tuition-free public schools lead the county's best-known private.
2. Only two schools clear 50. Oak Park and Westlake. The county median of 20 sits just above the statewide 18 — Ventura is solid across the board rather than spectacular at the top.
3. Fillmore converts best. It turns 39% of its UC applications into admissions, against 20% at Oak Park and 26% at Westlake. Thacher, the county's elite boarding school, converts 11% — the lowest rate in the county despite a score of 25.
4. Westlake carries the volume. 1,015 UC applications from 518 seniors, converted at 26%. Oak Park files 904 from just 326 seniors — about 2.8 applications per senior, the county's highest rate of application.
5. Oxnard's large schools sit at the bottom of the table. Channel Islands (13) and Hueneme (13) each graduate more than 440 seniors, and Pacifica graduates the county's largest class at 722 for a score of 12 — the clearest geographic split in the county.
